Trophies For Long Term Learners.
The long term learner trophies were generally well received and it is lovely to see the gratitude with which most of our students accepted the awards.
Some students were a little unclear about why they were not eligible for trophies even though we did explain the conditions below. I have placed them here for you to read again if you are unclear for any reason.
- You must have been a student continually for the period of time (no breaks).
- You must be on a monthly agreement for your tuition or have paid in full for a period of time.
- You must be active at the grading.
Long Term Learner trophies are only given out at December gradings.
CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION.
Have you ever wondered how the Police can decide who does what at a crime scene? If you ever wanted to know why some people are suspects and others are not?
Come along to our St Valentines Day Massacre, (A made up murder scene) Crime Scene Investigation where you will be part of the team solving the crime. You will be shown finger printing techniques, how to decide who fired which bullets and much more besides. Detectives must be 9 years or older. The investigation begins at
Please give your name and £20 fee to Mr Fitch or Miss Barrett at Bull Close or call 01693 760022 to book.
Rash Guards and Cold Weather Clothing
Some of you may be familiar with ‘rash guards,’ clothes that are worn under your Gi to protect your body from grazes when grappling. You may also be aware of brands such as ‘Skins,’ ‘Underarmour,’ and ‘
Well, as I am old and stiff, I often wear this type of gear. So I have had some BBA Under Gi shirts and shorts manufactured.
They are made of stretchy material that hugs the body keeping a thin layer of air trapped against it. This helps with warm ups (and staying warm during lesson time).
I have pasted a picture of me wearing this gear below and, if you get this by email it will probably be easy to see. If you have a paper copy of the newsletter it is not as clear.
The tops sell for £17 and the shorts for £15. If you are interested tell your instructor so that I can order a batch (I only have a small stock at present).
If you have any martial arts gear that doesn’t fit you or that you no longer require then bring it along to our sale day at Bull Close on Saturday 19th January
We will be selling off lots of excess stock including weapons, clothes, pads and Gis. There will be some real bargains so don’t miss out.
We will supply you with a table to sell your things from too, but please let us know in advance if you would like to sell things.
New Classes Starting Soon
Satellite Locations
We are continuing to grow with our Martial Arts Career Training (MACT) team moving on to open their own clubs in partnership with the BBA.
We have acquired the Holt classes from Miss Fox as her new job with the R.S.P.C.A. prevents her from getting to the classes. We would like to welcome all of those students into our group with open arms. The Holt class meets on a Monday evening at
Also in January, we have a new satellite location opening at Lingwood, just outside
Our Grasshoppers pre school class starts on Thursday 17th January. It is designed to help very young children develop gross and fine motor skills by learning to use their body at this young age. We have lots of soft play items to help them with this.
If you know anyone from toddler to 3 ½ years please tell them about these sessions.
Thinking Of Potential
New Student Students.
A perfect new student for us in this New Year would be either and adult looking to get themselves fit by doing something enjoyable and fun OR a pre school youngster whose parents are looking for fun ways to develop early coordination skills.
Calendar for 2008
We always like to raise money for good causes around this time of year. Last year I did the ‘Fight, Bike, Fight’ challenge and many of you supported me on this.
This year I am doing something a little less strenuous to help those less fortunate than ourselves. The Instructors (and a couple of students) have all posed (naked) for pictures. Now, before you get too excited, all the pictures are very classy and not too revealing.
The finished article is VERY nice and we will be donating £5 from each sale to E.A.C.H. (East Anglian Children’s Hospices).
I would like to think that lots of you will buy these calendars for yourself, your friends and work colleagues. It’s for a great cause and, as I’ve already said, it is a classy calendar.
We will be keeping a stock at Bull Close so you can either buy one from there or ask your instructor to get one for you. Price £10, £5 will go to EACH the other £5 towards the cost of production.

P.O.W.E.R. Strategy (New Time).
The fourth POWER strategy seminar is set for Sunday 13th January (it does not matter if you have not attended other sessions, each seminar is independent of the others). Remember the seminar is FREE to Leadership students and also family/friends. I have even changed the time to help those of you that have trouble getting up early on Sundays.
Please let your Instructor know if you will be attending as I need to ensure I have enough notes for everyone. The subject is;
The ‘RULES’ of life.
There are no rules for life and how to live it, but there are laws of nature that cannot be challenged. Make your own rules by understanding these laws and how they can benefit you.
P.O.W.E.R. Seminars will be each month on the second Sunday, after the Kata class.
Nature and seasonal events in January.
This is the first of, what I hope will be a monthly feature. It has been written by Iain Bell who trains in our Brain Dojo class at Bull Close. Iain is a very keen nature lover and I have asked him to give us some tips on things to watch for in Nature each month.
This month an estuary is the place to be because wading birds are there at the eateries. These wading birds will be feeding up at the eateries to survive the cold winter. Types of waders you might see are Greenshank, Redshank, Oystercatcher, and Gillimonts. All these wading birds have one thing in common, they all use their beaks to probe into the mud to find food. All of the birds have different diets and their prey all live on different levels. Some of the prey live on the surface of the mud, and some deeper down. These birds have all evolved to be able to reach their prey wherever it is located and for that the birds need to have the right kind of beak. The Oystercatcher has a long dagger like beak to be so that it can get into lug worms dens. For more information on wading birds please visit www.wwt.co.uk or www.rspb.org which I am a member of and it is worth a look.
By Iain Bell, Nature lover.
