Martial Art Styles

A Brief Overview of the Martial Arts We Teach:

Martial Arts styles have evolved in many countries over many thousands of years, this has led to many types of art being developed. These types (styles) were generally designed on the concepts of self-defence and character development. Some styles lean more toward combat skills and others more towards character development. We like to think we have a very balanced approach to teaching these arts as we understand that many people will benefit from learning 'an art' without necessarily ever wishing to compete in combat situations.

The principles stressed in the Martial Arts we teach are; respect, confidence, discipline, mental alertness, and a positive attitude towards life.

High Levels of Enthusiasm and Positive Reinforcement:

Our qualified instructors are energetic and outgoing. They have a sincere interest in your self-improvement, and in helping you reach your goals. They are all extensively trained in the art of PCP (Praise, Correct, Praise) and they ALL use the MOST helpful and encouraging language to inspire and motivate you with their feedback.

Our staff are willing to go the extra mile for you.

A Modern Approach to Self-Defence:

Our Black Belt Leadership Academy is dedicated to helping others develop confidence through self-defence skills. Safety is always our greatest concern. We have taught Martial Arts in Norwich and Norfolk since 1980 and, in that time, we have produced over 350 black belts.

Family Programmes:

Family programs develop team spirit. Our programs are designed to develop and strengthen the unity of the family. When individuals work together as a team, their individual talents will naturally improve.

Taekwondo at the Black Belt Academy is something the whole family can enjoy together.

Convenient Tuition Arrangements:

Our connection with UNITED PROFESSIONALS allows you to budget your tuition over time instead of paying it all at once. This makes Martial Arts affordable for everyone.

We are working together with UNITED PROFESSIONALS and other Black Belt Schools around the globe to raise the standards of the Martial Arts industry.
Dedication, Self-Discipline and Respect: The Martial Arts Philosophy teaches the importance of respect for one's self and others. All Black Belt students must follow the Student Creed. Students will learn to set goals and be self-motivating in achieving them. A positive mental attitude will evolve. Our younger students develop self-confidence to resist peer pressures and the disastrous effects of drugs and gangs.

Tae-kwon-do

This is a dynamic art with many kicks, powerful punching techniques and traditional patterns. It is ideally suited to those who would like to develop above average levels of fitness and flexibility. This is very popular with families because it is adaptable to suit all body types and family members of all ages can train together in the same classes.
How many other interests can the whole family enjoy in the safety and comfort of our classes?

Little Dragons

Little Dragons training at the Black Belt Academy

This program, designed specifically for 3 1/2 to 6 year olds helps teach the foundations of the martial arts such as; following instructions, taking turns, working in a team and developing self control. It also helps to teach them how to interact easily with others and learn how helping another person can make the world a better place.

Brain Dojo

Brain Dojo training

For people with learning challenges (ADHD, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Aspergers, etc). This form of martial arts is called Kotsu Ryu. It means the way of communication. There is a grading syllabus, leading to black belt status. In this, as with all our martial arts programs, the sessions have a strong emphasis on positive re-enforcement. Brain Dojo has been especially developed to enhance learning skills in all areas of life.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing at the Black Belt Academy

This art combines the dynamic kicking of Tae-kwon-do with the exciting punching techniques of western boxing. It is best suited to the person who wants to achieve high levels of fitness, self confidence and suppleness. Classes are conducted to the motivational beats of modern music and the dynamic instructors ensure that all students have great fun in the sessions. We teach 'the art' of kickboxing as opposed to other serious full contact competitors although many of our students have enjoyed success in light contact events.
Juniors, (13+), can join in adult kickboxing classes with the consent of parents/carers.

XMA

XMA

The attraction to XMA stems from the beauty of the traditional movements and traditional philosophies modified and taken to the xtreme. All XMA choreography, combinations, and routines pay homage to the traditional aspects of every martial arts style, while allowing the individual practitioner to pick and choose the movements of his or her choice.
